Rivers for Change ambassadors, Chris Morgan, Jessica Sterling, and Stuart Hickey  finished their Kennebec Source to Sea in July!  In September they were joined by ambassadors Joe Klementovich and Amy Borch from the Sandy Source to Kennebec team for a presentation at Patagonia Freeport to talk about their journeys.

Huge shout out to the Patagonia team for all their support throughout this campaign! From hosting multiple events, providing clothing and provisions, their support is so appreciated!

Kennebec Source to Sea Team

Stu, Jess, and Chris

The Kennebec crew experienced some long days, and more flat water and portages than their usual extreme whitewater endeavors entail. But the scenery was exquisite, the communities along the way inviting, and the river welcoming. Not to mention the hope that one day, Atlantic Salmon could spawn all the way up to the pristine headwaters of the Sandy river again.

Chris Morgan and Team have also created a Kennebec Paddle Trail map and corresponding descriptions of the paddle sections. We are excited to be working with the National Rivers Project to create a more extensive online resource. PLEASE practice LEAVE NO TRACE, assess your paddling skills, and follow ACA Best Practices when undertaking a paddling adventure of any kind!

We also wanted to share these beautiful maps that Amy Borch created for the Patagonia Freeport presentation:

We are thrilled to have engaged with the Sandy and Kennebec ambassadors this year! If you’re interested in becoming a Rivers for Change ambassador we’d love to hear from you! Engaging in a source to sea or your backyard river doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking, but we’re convinced each time you paddle and share a story, you’re amplifying the voice of a river that might otherwise not be heard.
