It was #CoastalCleanupDay and #WorldRiversDay on Sept 22nd. To help give back to these beautiful places we are so privileged to recreate in a crew from @riversforchange and @paddleseatrek cleaned up some beaches on Angel Island.

One gem included a message in a bottle from a 9 year old German student that was written 2 years ago! We’re working on tracking down the ocean currents and the student to see if how it actually made it from Germany!

Trash cleanup from Coastal Cleanup Day with Rivers for Change

With the help of the Sea Trek Skiff the team was able to remove Plastics, Cans, Bottles, Styrofoam, Luggage from Perles Beach, Sand Springs, and Point Blunt Beach, where we found our third “message in a bottle” from the area!

Huge thanks to John Dye , Albert Szilvasy, Mitch Powers, @jenfullerfitness, @galenlicht and Sea Trek!

While Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual tradition, Rivers for Change regularly holds cleanups and throughout this year clean ups this year have found 2 additional letters in bottles, an Ann Taylor patent leather purse, several sun hats, watering cans, cutlery, a never ending supply of dog toys, a usable surfboard, kite board and a very nice $2,000.00 foiling kite which we were able to locate and return to the owner with the help of Redwood Water Sports.

Every day can be a cleanup day and a way to give back to the waterways we love to recreate on!
