2014 Year in Review

2014 Recap:

It’s been another wonderful year for Rivers for Change. While we are still a young and mostly volunteer organization, we continue to increase our fan base with your support and enthusiasm!

We successfully connected people to rivers, people to people, and rivers to rivers with many on-water events throughout the year; awakening people to new watersheds, adventures, and experiences. Allowing people to fall in love with a new river, learn more about it and help take some responsibility for its health and wellbeing is one of the joys of our work, all while getting outside and enjoying the beautiful gifts these rivers have to offer us.

Last January we co-hosted our 3rd Annual River to Reel with SYRCL-connecting filmmakers and enthusiasts to the Lower Yuba. In February we hosted the 22nd annual Cow Patty Pageant despite the pouring rain. Throughout the spring we had several race trainings to prepare for our wonderful 2nd annual California 100 race on the Sacramento River. To give back to the community and river we had a pre-race community paddle day and a post-race river cleanup with the Sacramento River Preservation Trust. This summer we helped support and join a CNN reporter on a majority of his Source to Sea down the San Joaquin, and in the fall we teamed up with the California Native Plant Society again to help them continue to fill in their plant database.

These events could not happen without your support. As we continue to grow our foundation and networks and look at new partnerships and opportunities to reach a broader audience and engage people passionately with their river, we need your continued support.

There are several ways to engage with us: donations, shopping, and volunteering! Check out https://www.riversforchange.org/action-2/ for the best way to get involved.

San Joaquin: Source to Sea
In June we met up and helped support CNN reporter John Sutter as he traveled down the most endangered river of 2014. If you haven’t read the recap of his journey we higly recommend his story of this complex river so central to California.

Join Rivers for Change and SYRCL to jump start the Wild and Scenic Film Festival by floating down a section of the Lower Yuba! This is a great way to get on the water in the winter and then go see an array of inspiring films!
